Katie is a performing artist, a teacher , and the founder of 1617Lab.

As a dancer, Katie performed with the Radio City Rockettes, and traveled the globe with several productions and performance artists . She holds a Bachelors’ degree in Dance Performance from Oklahoma City University,  is certified in Contemporary Pilates from Pilates Sports Center in Encino, CA and is a mindful student of yoga, dance (of every discipline) and meditation.  Her intention in opening 1617Lab was to gather exceptionally and uniquely talented guides interested in bringing their skills in movement and healing modalities together to create a beautiful environment. To create a space where their work would amplify each others. She draws her inspiration from her a community of women who gather weekly to share as teachers, from her dedicated clientele, and from her dance parentage.

Katie is originally from the suburbs of Detroit, MI, lived in New York and currently resides in Venice, California.

As a guide, Katie is interested in connecting you to your most authentic alignment through a weekly embodied program. She trains you on Pilates equipment guiding your force, energy, awareness and timing of movement. You do the rest. She and her associates will mindfully share information and guide you to restore your body to it’s natural state of balance through movement, meditation, and other wellness offerings.

Jessi Lucatorto

Jessi Lucatorto is a Pilates instructor known for her bold and bright teaching style that boosts her clients’ energy and spirit.  She enjoys challenging her clients helping to transform their bodies.  Through Jessi’s own journey of healing, she discovered Pilates and all the positive benefits for those looking to recover from or prevent an injury.

Jessi’s love of all things dance began at the age of three and at the age of 10, was diagnosed with scoliosis.  Even with this devastating diagnosis, she went on to study at the prestigious Alvin Ailey’s American Dance Theater in New York City as well as University of Arizona’s Dance program. Jessi is a certified Pilates instructor from Pilates Sports Center in Encino, CA and studied at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to better support her clients with a more holistic approach.

Samantha Jane Gray

“Our bodies were made to move : for freedom, inspiration, expansion and healing and it is through this connection that we have fuller experiences.”

Through her exploration of dance, Samantha has been exposed to many different practices and techniques that provide a large palette which informs her movement practices : ballet, contemporary, gaga, contact improvisation, Feldenkrais, qigong, acupuncture, physiotherapy, oesteopathy and Structural Integration and lots of informal dancing. Through interweaving these different understandings, Samantha wishes to find a balance between our cognitive mind and our natural instinctual moving body.

Samantha has worked with dancers, professional athletes, musicians, clients pre and post-natal and all clients who wish to experience the work, improve their physical well-being or rehabilitate an injury and aim for exquisite efficiency. Samantha is certified in Pilates and GYROTONIC®.

Leigh Wakeford

Yoga

An active lifestyle has always been the norm for Leigh Wakeford. Whether hiking Table Mountain in his home of Cape Town, South Africa, dancing on the stages of Broadway in New York, or flowing on the beaches of LA, movement has been his path, his motivation and his medicine. The inevitable passion for movement and knowledge of its healing qualities led Leigh to his Yoga mentors Stephanie Culen and Mindy Frenkl, under whose guidance Leigh completed his 200 hour RYT certification in December 2010.

Although his foundation lies in traditional Vinyasa practice, inspiration from dance and fitness fusions have allowed Leigh to modify his teaching style to one that truly suits the individual. He believes that everybody and every body is unique. Whether it’s a need to heal, strengthen, lengthen, move meditate or all of the above, Leigh’s approach to wellness guarantees a challenging, uplifting and feel good experience, with visible and tangible results.
